Hi. Welcome back to the blog! So it has been three weeks since returning to work and what can I say? It feels as though I have been working all year long or as though I didn’t have a summer break, but that is a story for another time. I have always been excited about the beginning of a new school year and this year is no different. It has been quite exciting to return to some sort of normalcy.
This blog post will serve as a reflection in a sense as well as a glance ahead. I feel like these three weeks went by really quickly. I barely got a chance to ease back into work. This academic year marks my third year outside of my classroom and I am still adjusting. I miss decorating my classroom, but I am also grateful for the opportunity to make a wider impact.
The last three weeks have been quite interesting for me especially because of how the previous academic year ended. I actually thought this school year would have looked differently, but thankfully I was able to return to my current school and I was able to continue building on what I started. As I get more into the space, I realize that changes are deemed as necessary and apart of the process and that is fine. However, just like children need consistency, teachers and even leaders do too. I remember some of my early days as a teacher when there was always an attempt to move me to a different grade. I was not too keen on that and eventually had to be explicit about my desire to stay in one grade level for at least 3 years.
Having completed 3 weeks at work, I believe I am in a good enough position to get through this year. There were the initial meetings, planning and getting back into the routine. Speaking of routine, I have also transitioned my son to preschool and let’s just say, we are getting used to the routine. I will share more details about choosing a preschool in a future post.
As I bring this post to a close, I want to take this time to wish everyone a successful academic year. Also, remember to give yourself some grace as you go through the year. 💛
